A brief profile of key board members is set out below.
Mike Smith
Executive chairman
Years at IMO 10
Mike originally joined IMO in 1999 as Chief Operating Officer. In 2006 he stepped down to a non-executive role as Deputy Chairman of the group and rejoined on a full time basis in his current role in February 2009. Mike previously worked for BP where he was Head of Planning and Strategy for BP’s global retail business.
Prior to this Mike was UK Retail Manager for Mobil's chain of 700 petrol filling stations. Mike has an honours degree in business studies from the University of Aston in Birmingham.

Jonathan Booth
Deputy CEO
Years at IMO 9
Jonathan joined IMO in 2000 as UK Managing Director from BP. Prior to that he was at Mobil Oil company where he held a wide variety of operational roles, latterly as head of the BP European fuel card Business. Since 2007 Jonathan was Managing Director of IMO’s continental operations before taking up his current position. Jonathan received an honours degree in Economic history and Politics from Leicester University.
Tim Richards
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Years at IMO 6
Tim joined IMO in 2004. He began his career at the Ford Motor Company and subsequently held senior financial positions in various multinational companies, including Whitbread and Hertz. Prior to joining IMO, he was the CFO of a private equity backed business. Tim Richards is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, has a degree in mathematics and has a master’s degree in business administration.
Alexander Russell
Non Executive Director
Alexander joined IMO in 1979 and as Managing Director of the UK business was responsible for developing 200 locations between 1985 and 1998. Alexander was previously an Associate Director of Orion Bank Ltd and is now a Non-Executive Director of Rose HoldCo Limited and a Non-Executive Director of Sotheby's Europe. Alexander has an honours degree in Modern Languages from Cambridge University.
John Von Spreckelsen
Non Executive Director
John is currently Chairman of BUT, a leading furniture retail chain in France, and Thorntons PLC in the UK. He is also Operating Partner at Merchant Equity Partners LLP.
Prior to these positions John held a variety of senior roles at Forstinger Handel und Service GmBH, Safeway Stores PLC and Gartmore European Investment Trust PLC.
James Hodkinson
Non Executive Director
Jim began his retailing career at Woolworths in 1962 before moving to B&Q in 1971. He went on to become Chief Executive in 1986 and was appointed to the Kingfisher board in 1994. He became chief executive at New Look in 1998 before taking the company public.
Currently Jim is Non Executive chairman of Furniture Village, Ultimate Products and Massmart in South Africa.
